Biographical Information:
VCDA/VAMCD's Key note speaker, Benjamin Keyes, Ph.D., Ed.D., is a Professor and Program Coordinator of Psychology and Counseling at Regent University. Dr. Keyes received his Doctorate in Rehabilitation Counseling from International College and in Counseling Psychology from the University of Sarasota. He also holds Doctoral degrees in Theology and Ministry.
Prior to taking his position at Regent, Dr. Keyes was in private practice in Clearwater, Florida. Over the years, he has worked extensively with hospitalization programs, as well.
Currently, Dr. Keyes heads the Center for Trauma Studies, and trains graduate students in first response trauma. The trauma team deploys to developing nations, such as Nicaragua and Romania, to teach and work with trauma survivors. Their aim is to train and support area leaders, volunteers, or health personnel to provide individual mental health services after the deployment team is no longer on-site. They also network support efforts of other humanitarian groups to provide the basic needs of affected populations. Through their training and assistance, The Regent University Trauma Team empowers people from around the world to rebuild their own communities, creating a positive environment for all.
